It was necessary for Maxx Crosby to remind his colleagues, who are among the NFL’s finest pass rushers, that Rome wasn’t really built in a day.
Standing tall among over sixty NFL defensive lineman from the past and present, the Raiders’ Pro Bowl edge rusher was encircled on the field at UNLV’s Fertitta Football Complex. They came together for Sack Summit, an annual gathering that was first planned by Von Miller, a three-time All-Pro. Since 2017, the summit, which aims to help defensive linemen network and share knowledge, has been a Las Vegas mainstay. Crosby was added to the mix as a keynote speaker and host after attending the event for a number of years.
“Von texted me following the summit the previous year, saying, ‘Hey, we’re heading to Vegas.'” You’re rising to the top of the globe. In a way, I want you to take over here,” Crosby remarked. It made sense to me to just approach it as a joint endeavour. I didn’t question it or give it a second thought.”
Jordan, Crosby, and Miller all gave suggestions on how to set up assaults and use proper technique, but the main topic of discussion was how to play unpredictable off the line of scrimmage. Crosby emphasised the significance of starting quickly and progressively wearing down the offensive line.
But perhaps the best advice he could provide was to be patient.
After recording a career-high 14.5 sacks in 2023, Crosby admitted to placing too much value on his early-career accomplishments. He had 10 sacks in his debut season, but in his sophomore campaign, he only managed seven. Miller and Jordan have gotten to know Crosby well since he entered the league in 2019. The Silver and Black edge rusher sought out advice from the two over the years, which made them that much prouder seeing the student become the teacher at the Sack Summit, including taking the lead in the film study portion of the event.
“You could feel the anxiety for him to be great since Year 2,” Jordan said. “But when you have a guy like that who’s like, ‘I’m doing the most that I can, how can I get better?’ you literally just tell him, ‘Relax bro. Everything will come in due time.’ Now he’s a monster. He’s had such great success over the last four, five years, and now he’s so willing to give everything that he has in all phases. The same Maxx you see on gamedays is the same Maxx that you’re going to hear talking at the Sack Summit.”

One of the teammates who has profited most from Crosby’s influence is Malcolm Koonce. He has engaged in everyday competition both with and against Crosby since the 2021 third-round pick made his way to Las Vegas. Koonce, like his mentor and comrade, has been internally troubled by his inability to produce as many sacks that he is satisfied with. With Koonce recording a career-high eight sacks in the previous season, Crosby cited his teammate as the ideal illustration of someone who had demonstrated the patience he was trying to instill.
After attending his first Sack Summit, Koonce remarked, “You have the best pass rushers here so you can really pick people’s brains and it’s amazing to see how other people can look at the same thing you do but in their own eyes.” “Thank you
