Everton and Ligue 1 heavyweights Marseille have reportedly reached an agreement on a €20 million deal for 24-year-old forward Iliman Ndiaye.
Everton has expressed interest in Iliman Ndiaye, as reported by TEAMtalk. The Toffees have been scouting the market for a striker ahead of the summer transfer window. And they are about to complete a €20 million deal for the 24-year-old Marseille attacker.
Iliman Ndiaye and his Marseille travails
Iliman Ndiaye had a mixed reaction after signing for Marseille from Sheffield United at €17 million. Losing the Senegalese international was a significant setback to the Blades’ hopes because they lost their most productive attacker, which hampered their 2023/24 Premier League campaign.
Meanwhile, the 24-year-old was not a first-choice starter for Marseille, with less than 2,500 minutes of game time across 46 appearances in all competitions. He contributed four goals and five assists. That is not a remarkable figure for a striker, but his stock has not dropped in the last 12 months.
Premier League clubs have expressed interest in the former Sheffield United striker ahead of the summer transfer season. Iliman Ndiaye’s next destination will be the English Premier League, with Everton poised to complete a €20 million summer transfer.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Everton’s interest in Iliman Ndiaye is logical, albeit surprising. Despite having three centre-forwards in their first-team roster, the Toffees have been scanning the market for a striker as the summer transfer window begins. However, recent occurrences imply Everton may require a new striker ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is set to join Newcastle United in the summer transfer window as a long-term replacement for Callum Wilson. So, Ndiaye is a feasible target, with Everton set to announce a €20 million agreement to recruit the Senegalese international from Ligue 1 side Marseille.
Despite Iliman Ndiaye’s troubles at the Ligue 1 club last season, spending €20 million to sign the 24-year-old attacker is understandable. It will be intriguing to see if he can resume his stuttering career at Goodison Park in 2024/25.
