Conor Gallagher retracts allegation amid Aston Villa transfer twist

The latest Aston Villa transfer news as target Conor Gallagher’s future remains uncertain moving into his final year at Chelsea.

Conor Gallagher might still renew his contract with Chelsea, amid interest from Aston Villa and a number of other teams in the £50 million-rated midfielder.

The 24-year-old is nearing the end of his deal with Chelsea, putting his future in jeopardy. Previous rumours suggested the Blues might be willing to cash in if salaries were not agreed upon. However, the Villa target has stated that he is not in a haste to resolve the issue.

“I’ve just been focusing on England and this is the most important thing right now, for me and the country,” he stated on the eve of Euro 2024. “I am a Chelsea player right now and now I am just thinking about England and the tournament.”

He and several members of the England squad have been linked to transfer action while on duty in Germany, with Gallagher in particular having a number of named suitors if his club pushes him out before September.

According to The Athletic, the midfielder’s signing a new contract at Stamford Bridge is still a possibility. It is unclear whether this indicates the club agreeing to higher expectations or the player’s side decreasing theirs.

Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid have been mentioned as potential bidders in recent months, with Unai Emery and Villa. Chelsea was alleged to be pushing for £50 million to maximise their pure profit from any transaction.

The West London club is still looking for a striker after talks over Jhon Duran’s £40 million transfer from Villa Park fell through. Carney Chukwuemeka, who left the West Midlands for Chelsea two years ago, might still be on the move.
