“The board wanted me to stay” – Celtic exit down to Brendan Rodgers, club felt differently

Brendan Rodgers did not include Sead Haksabanovic in his plans for Celtic, and in the summer of 2023, he departed the team on loan to Stoke City.

He had a mixed experience there, somewhat ruined by a groyne injury at the end of the season.Given that Rodgers didn’t think highly of him and that the manager is still with the team, there wasn’t much chance of him rising to prominence at Celtic.

Haksabanovic has instead transferred to Malmö FF, where there was much hoopla.

According to the player, who was cited by Footballskanalen, “In terms of football, I don’t think that Malmö and Celtic are far apart,” the move is a positive one rather than a step back.

When questioned about why, after doing well under Ange Postecoglou and then being dropped by Rodgers, he had to leave Celtic on loan last summer, he said, “Yes, mainly him (Rodgers), because the board wanted me to stay.” They had faith in me, but he had different ideas.

Haksabanovic asserts that there is optimism regarding his summer transfer, stating that “Malmö in Sweden is like Real Madrid in Spain.”
