Newcastle United’s first two summer additions are now been confirmed: After the club triggered an obligation to buy clause in his loan agreement for the 2023–24 season, Lewis Hall, a £28 million acquisition from Chelsea, is also anticipated to be confirmed. Meanwhile, on July 1, Lloyd Kelly signed a five-year contract to play for Newcastle at St. James’ Park.
After agreeing to terms and signing a contract last month, Kelly, 25, will wear the number 25 shirt for Newcastle during the 2024–25 season. His contract with AFC Bournemouth expires on June 30.
Kelly posted a statement on the club website after his relocation, stating, “It’s amazing to be coming here.” I am aware of the club’s size and the significance it holds for all of the supporters. All I want to do is get right in and get to work.
“It’s a significant adjustment for the family and me; living in the south definitely makes things different, but Newcastle’s contrast between the city and the countryside makes it a beautiful city,” the family member said.
“I am eager to get going. Coming here wasn’t a difficult choice for me to make. Having worked with the gaffer in the past, I am aware of his expectations for his players’ performance. I really cannot wait to get going. Hall, who was on loan from Chelsea for the previous season, will remain at Newcastle for the 2024–2025 season. During his loan stint, the 19-year-old made 22 appearances for The Magpies across all competitions, tallying two goals.
Despite signing a permanent contract with Newcastle, he was the last player on Chelsea’s retained list to be identified as a contracted player.
On the official Newcastle website, Hall is seen wearing the new 2024–25 shirt. Although his bio on Newcastle’s website confirms the left-back’s summer transfer, it’s unknown how long he’ll be at St. James’ Park.
“Set to complete a permanent move to Tyneside from Chelsea this summer,” according to Hall’s official club bio. The adaptable Hall, who was captained by England during their formative years, played 22 games and scored twice while on loan at St. James’ Park in 2023–2024—both against Manchester United.
