Newcastle United’s £28 million double signing becomes official with the agreement of a five-year contract and the activation of a provision.

First two summer signings for Newcastle United are officially confirmed: Lewis Hall, a £28 million acquisition from Chelsea, is also expected to be confirmed after the club activated an obligation to buy clause in his 2023–24 season-long loan. Lloyd Kelly, meanwhile, is now a Newcastle player, beginning his five-year deal at St James’ Park today, July 1.

Kelly, 25, will wear the number 25 shirt for Newcastle during the 2024–25 season after agreeing terms and signing a contract last month; his contract with AFC Bournemouth expires on June 30.

Kelly expressed his thoughts about his move to the club website, saying, “It’s amazing to be coming here. I know how big the club is and how much it means to all the fans. I just want to get started right away and get to work.”

“It’s a big move for the family and me; living in the south obviously makes things different, but I think Newcastle is a great city because of the contrast between the city and the countryside.”

“I can’t wait to get started. It wasn’t a hard decision for me to come here. Working with the gaffer previously, I know what he wants from his players and how he wants them to play. I just can’t wait to get started.” Hall, who spent the previous season on loan from Chelsea, will stay at Newcastle for the 2024–25 campaign. The 19-year-old made 22 appearances for The Magpies in all competitions during his loan spell, scoring twice.

He was the final player on Chelsea’s retained list to be recognized as a contracted player, although he will now sign a permanent contract with Newcastle.

The new Newcastle shirt for 2024–25 is modeled by Hall on the team’s official website. The left-back’s summer transfer is also verified by his bio on Newcastle’s website, however it is unclear how long he will remain at St. James’ Park.

Hall’s official club bio reads, “Set to complete a permanent move to Tyneside from Chelsea this summer. Capped by England at youth level, the versatile Hall spent 2023–24 on loan at St. James’ Park, making 22 appearances and scoring twice – both against Manchester United.”
