Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur Archie Gray deal details with loan-back and sell-on questions answered

The agreements between Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur to sign Archie Grey and Joe Rodon are still in the works, but no discussions have been held over the latter player’s return loan or sell-on clause.

In a deal estimated to be worth £40 million for the Whites, Grey is expected to join Spurs, while Rodon will leave to become a permanent fixture at Elland Road in a different deal valued at roughly £10 million.

The YEP knows the teams are not contemplating such a proposal. One of the major concerns for Whites supporters was whether or not they would see the homegrown gem Grey return immediately on a loan move from his new Premier League club. The amount of money the London club is giving the 18-year-old also implies that, once preseason play starts this summer, he will be included in Ange Postecoglou’s first team plans. Grey took into account gametime when he consented to travel to Brentford for a medical before a move fell through due to payment issues. Although Spurs will provide a slightly more difficult challenge in terms of a first team breakthrough, the young player will persevere to earn opportunities.

The YEP is also aware that Leeds is not entitled to a sell-on clause in a transaction that improves their position in terms of sustainability and profitability. Leeds was very clear this summer that they needed to sell a top player to meet the EFL’s financial requirements, and the proceeds from the sale of Grey, together with the trades that sent Tyler Adams and Luis Sinisterra to Bournemouth, will be very helpful.

Leeds is hoping to finalise the deals for Grey and Rodon by tomorrow at the latest. Following his medical examination, Grey and the Spurs reached a personal agreement on a long-term deal.
