Kristjaan Speakman confirms and explains Sunderland’s big Callum Styles transfer decision

Sunderland has decided what will happen to Callum Styles going forward.

The decision by Sunderland to decline Barnsley’s offer to extend Callum Styles’ loan has been announced.

The team has been considering their options beyond the season, but they are intensifying their summer plans now that Styles’ Euro 2024 journey with Hungary is about to an end and Régis Le Bris has taken over as head coach. Styles will now return to Barnsley, but it’s likely that he’ll be moving about this summer as several Championship teams are hoping to sign him.

“As we continue to plan for the new season, we have decided not to take the option in Callum’s loan agreement, and as a result, his time with us has concluded,” stated Sunderland’s sporting director Kristjaan Speakman. Throughout his tenure at the Club, Callum shown exceptional attitude and application, and we wish him well in his future endeavors.”

Styles was a player Sunderland had monitored throughout several transfer windows; nevertheless, illness originally cast doubt on the loan agreement. After all, Styles signed with the team on deadline day, but he was frequently used out of position for a faltering squad, which made it difficult for him to reach his peak performance. After regaining consistency and form at the end of the season, he was crucial to the team’s success, but he will now weigh his options in the preseason.
