Josh Sargent Is ‘In Pole Position’ To Join Leeds

‘In position’ to sign Josh Sargent, a striker for Norwich City, is Leeds United’s summer transfer target.
Brentford and Wolves are among the teams that are interested in Sargent after his stellar Championship season.
Archie Grey, Wilfried Gnonto, and Crysencio Summerville are three of Leeds’ top players that could leave the team.

Josh Sargent of Norwich City is a striker that Leeds United is reportedly interested in signing this summer and could be able to close the deal.

Sargent scored 16 goals in just 26 games for the Canaries during their fantastic season in the Championship last year, but they were unable to advance to the Premier League. Many teams, including Leeds, are taking an interest in this outstanding campaign as they aim to strengthen their attacking options in preparation for the anticipated promotion push next season.

Despite not having made a firm bid for the US international, Caught Offside claims that West Yorkshire is in “pole position” to sign the player. The Whites believe Sargent is the best option to take Patrick Bamford’s place, who was limited to just 15 league starts and eight goals due to injuries last season.

Leeds Interested in Sargent

Premier League teams compete with the Championship team.

In 2017, Sargent moved to Germany to play for Werder Bremen. Since then, he has established a solid career in Europe and has been a regular member of the US Men’s national team. Before making an £8 million transfer to Norwich in 2021, the attacker made 81 appearances for the German team, scoring 15 goals.

Many wrote Sargent off after his poor Premier League season with the Norfolk team in 2021–2022, but he bounced back with back-to-back stellar seasons in England’s second level. Now, a move back to the Premier League appears likely. The center-forward was allegedly being considered by Wolves back in March, and Brentford has been mentioned as a possible destination.

Sargent, who was born in Missouri, might instead play in the Championship for the upcoming campaign, according to Caught Offside, with Leeds leading the pursuit to sign the midfielder.Daniel Farke is eager to get back together with his former teammate because he views him as a viable substitute for Bamford, who has continuously struggled with injuries.

In order to bounce back from their 1-0 play-off final loss to Southampton, Leeds will be itching to return to the top division the following season. Farke believes that bringing in a Championship-caliber goal scorer to support Joel Piroe will be essential to achieving this objective.

Sargent – described as the “best striker” in the Championship by the Second Tier Podcast – is currently competing with the US at the Copa America, so any deal will likely be delayed until the States exit the tournament. Progression to the quarter-finals is currently in the balance, with Gregg Berhalter’s men set to play Uruguay tonight in a pivotal encounter.

Leeds at Risk of Losing Key Players

Gray, Gnonto and Summerville have all been linked with moves away

Archie Gray

This summer, Leeds hopes to bolster their roster with new players, but they also run the risk of losing several of their top players. The Premier League clubs will unavoidably want to acquire the team’s most valuable players after narrowly losing out on promotion, and Farke’s main task in the upcoming months will be persuading them to stay.

Archie Grey, who played in almost 50 games for the Whites last season, is expected to sign with Tottenham. As for Wilfried Gnonto, Brighton has started talking to teams about moving for him, while Napoli is ‘internally discussing’ the possibility of doing the same.
