Bryan King has piled praise on Ashley Young after the full-back agreed a contract extension with Everton.
The ex-Goodison scout believes the 38-year-old’s presence in the changing room could be important next season.
Everton confirmed via X (25 June) that Young has signed a one-year contract extension with the Toffees.
And King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – claims this was the correct decision for the player.
“I think Young deserves this new contract,” King said.
“He has proved what a good professional he is. He has played at the highest level and he has won major trophies.
“If you’re bringing in young players then you need players around in your squad who have that experience. This is well-deserved.
“He has proved that he can still play so well done to him.”

Young’s Premier League deal may very possibly be his last one.
By the time the 2025–2026 Premier League season begins, the defender will be forty years old, hence it seems unlikely that he will be given any new contracts next summer.
The Englishman will therefore be eager to finish this season on a high.
He might not be able to play as much as he has in past years, but his presence at the club could still be very significant.
Young will be the ideal role model for the excellent young players the Toffees have on their roster.
The team appears to be seeking stability, and the upcoming season may be a transitional one as Dan Friedkin is anticipated to take charge.
Young demonstrated last season that he can still contribute on the field, making him an ideal player to have around.
