Anthony Gordon makes feelings clear as Newcastle agree club record sale

Anthony Gordon has been linked with a transfer to Liverpool this summer, and he was quick to react after Newcastle announced the departure of midfielder Elliot Anderson

After Elliot Anderson finalized his transfer to Nottingham Forest, Anthony Gordon, a star for Newcastle United, didn’t take long to offer his admiration for the young player.

In an effort to meet the deadline set by the profit and sustainability regulations (PSR), Newcastle made two quick transactions on Sunday. Winger Yankuba Minteh, who made an impression when on loan at Feyenoord last season, completed his move to Brighton. Anderson was one of the two.

With this decision, Anderson, 21, breaks off his relationship with the childhood club he has represented since he joined them when he was eight years old. After joining Forest, the offensive midfielder, who appeared in 55 games for the Magpies, took to social media to post an emotional statement.

He posted the following alongside a video that demonstrated his rise through the ranks at the club: “It’s been an honor to represent my club for 14 years. The moment I put on that black-and-white shirt at St. James’ Park will always be cherished in my memory.

“I want to express my gratitude to all the club members and Geordies who have helped and encouraged me along the way. I have and always will be a supporter of the club and hope for the best for all those connected. One door opens as the other closes. I am grateful to NUFC.

With his £35 million purchase price, Anderson joins Andy Carroll, who left the Magpies in January 2011 to join Liverpool, as the club’s equal record seller.

The Reds were also partially embroiled in the drama surrounding Newcastle’s PSR over the weekend, as it was revealed that they had been given the opportunity to sign Gordon, a winger for the club, but only if they were willing to accept the departure of center-back Jarell Quansah in exchange.

Although Liverpool is a major fan of Gordon, they didn’t want to lose the talented Quansah, a center-back who made waves in his rookie season and is regarded as an important member of the first team.

Gordon responded to Anderson’s remark on social media immediately, writing, “Gunna miss you lad,” after England defeated Slovakia 2-1 in extra time on Sunday at Euro 2024.

Anderson posted a statement on the Forest website regarding his arrival, saying, “I’m buzzing.” I’m excited to get going since I think this is a huge club with a long history.

It’s both the city and the club. Nottingham Forest has always held a special place in my heart, and I believe it’s a fantastic venue for me to show off my skills and further my career.
