Alan Shearer picks who should start England’s next game… Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa or Brighton’s Lewis Dunk

Alan Shearer has now shared his view on which of Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa or Brighton & Hove Albion’s Lewis Dunk should start for England on Saturday.

Marc Guehi will be suspended against Switzerland because of his accumulation of yellow cards, despite the fact that he has performed admirably for Gareth Southgate thus far at Euro 2024.

Consequently, there will be a free space on England’s back line next to John Stones.

Joe Gomez of Liverpool may also be considered, but Konsa or Dunk—who Southgate relied on during qualifying—are the favorites to be selected.

The 26-year-old Konsa had a fantastic season with Villa and has advanced significantly since Unai Emery took over.

The adaptable defender participated in the final fifteen minutes of Sunday’s thrilling comeback victory over Slovakia, giving him five caps for his nation.

Alan Shearer thinks Ezri Konsa should replace Marc Guehi for England vs Switzerland

Shearer selected Konsa in lieu of Guehi based on the fact that the Villa player had recently been somewhat more involved—possibly even making reference to his Sunday night minutes.

The commentator revealed: “It’s probably Konsa.” Since he has had a little more involvement, I would include him.

While using Konsa would never be a bad idea for England at this time, it’s possible that Dunk’s skill set is ideal for the job at hand.

The majority of England’s play comes from their center backs, who are frequently compelled to play ahead of the midfield due to their tactical shortcomings.

And because he seems so at ease with the ball at his feet, Dunk is one of the Premier League’s best progressive center backs.

But Dunk has recently demonstrated a propensity to make mistakes for Brighton and England, which could possibly play a role in Southgate’s choice.

For Villa and Southgate, Konsa has been remarkably reliable; at this point, he would be safer and most likely the superior choice.

However, should Dunk be chosen, the benefit might outweigh the danger.

Having said that, Declan Rice recently revealed what he told Jude Bellingham prior to his historic Sunday goal for England.
