What motivated Ronaldo to travel to Al Nassr?

Ronaldo had several motives for choosing to move to Al Nassr. Probably the biggest reason was probably the chance to play in a new league and get a taste of a new culture. The team also extended an offer of a large deal and the opportunity for him to stay competitive. Another possibility is that Ronaldo was looking for a fresh challenge and regarded Al Nassr as a chance to show his mettle in a new environment.

For quite some time now, Cristiano Ronaldo has been a top-tier player and is unquestionably one of the best players of all time, if not the greatest. He had been a star at every team he had played for—Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus—and had never had a bad season from 2006 to 2021 when he returned to Manchester United. He was so good, in fact, that by his own very high standards, any season with fewer than 40 goals was considered a disappointment.

Sadly, even the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo is susceptible to the effects of ageing, and it appears that in 2021, the ageing process took a serious toll on him. It became very evident to all that Ronaldo was not the same player he had been previously, even though his return season at Manchester United wasn’t bad at all. In just a few years, his play style had drastically changed, and he was no longer as quick or productive as he once was.

Ronaldo intended to leave Manchester United following the poor 2021–22 season, but no elite club in Europe was interested in signing him. As Ronaldo became older, most teams were no longer prepared to compromise their style of play in order to accommodate his 37-year-old physique.

Ronaldo is quite conceited and concerned mostly with his legacy. He aspires to be regarded as the all-time great who never played in a bad club. Ronaldo had a terrible season at Manchester United in 2022–2023; even his performances at the World Cup were subpar. Worse, in the perspective of many football fans, Messi had finally ended the GOAT issue when he won the 2022 World Cup, defeating his lifelong adversary Lionel Messi.

Following the World Cup in 2022, he had three options. He had two options:

  1. Play on for a smaller club in Europe at a considerably lower salary,
  2. Completely retire from football in shame,
  3. Join Al Nassr, make a tonne of money, and have a spectacular farewell to his career.

And Ronaldo went with choice number three. He can continue to be a household name, set new records, and develop his brand in Saudi Arabia, all while making over $200 million year. In addition to receiving a large salary, signing with Al Nassr offers him the chance to further his legacy.
