Newcastle set to sign Greek international with three medicals booked on Sunday

Newcastle United are close to signing Nottingham Forest custodian Odysseas Vlachodimos.

After achieving big-money sales for Elliot Anderson, who is ready for a medical at the City Ground in a £35 million move, and striking a £33 million deal to bring Yankuba Minteh to Brighton, it has surfaced that the Greek stopper could be on his way to St James’ Park, as initially suggested by Jacque Talbot.

With Loris Karius freed and Martin Dubravka due to retire after Euro 2024, Newcastle are in need of some additional goalkeeping cover and had previously tracked Vlachodimos during his spell at Benfica.

His career hasn’t taken off as some had hoped since impressing in Portugal several years ago, but if a trade is done, he’ll likely replace Karius as our third choice option, with Fabrizio Romano stating that we’ve scheduled a physical for his impending arrival.

The 6ft 3′ Stuttgart-born goalie represented Germany at juvenile level up to the Under-21 squad before switching allegiances to Greece, where he has 42 caps.
