Gareth Southgate’s opinions about Tottenham have already been revealed as a “huge deal advances.”

Tottenham, who are considering a transfer for the young England star, will be delighted to hear Gareth Southgate’s remarks on him.

Archie Grey, a midfielder for Leeds United, has already been predicted by England manager Gareth Southgate to have a bright future. This is encouraging news for Tottenham as they move closer to signing the 18-year-old in north London. The adolescent from Durham had a fantastic 2023–2024 season with Leeds in The Championship, playing in 44 games under Daniel Farke.

He has, however, also shown promise for England’s U21 team, scoring a goal in his debut earlier this year against Azerbaijan. Southgate, who acknowledged Gray’s work ethic for his club in May and made hints about his potential involvement in senior England squads, is aware of Gray’s efforts.

He stated: “There are some players with the Under-21s who are doing exceptionally well, especially in midfield,” while revealing the Euro 2024 roster last month. We could add a few guys from that group, like Kobbie Mainoo, Harvey Elliott, Rico Lewis, who was with us previously, and Archie Grey at Leeds, who is, I must say, doing quite well.”

The Peacocks have reportedly turned down a £40 million offer from Brentford for the midfielder, despite allowing him to travel for a medical at the weekend. Now, Spurs are said to have entered talks with the club for Gray’s signature after monitoring the player for months. The highly-rated player is set to hold discussions with Ange Postecoglu on Sunday, as the Spurs manager looks to close in on the exciting deal. Leeds would be defeated by Southampton in Wembley’s Play-Off final. However, a number of Premier League managers hope that another year in the second tier could persuade Grey to make a move.

While Chelsea and Arsenal are also linked with the teenage talent, The Athletic claim that Gray favours a move to Tottenham, and with Leeds chairman Paraag Marathe previously noting that the club may have to cash in on the midfielder, a deal could be imminent.

“Let me give you the big picture. There are a few things we need to do, and we will make sure we are fully compliant with PSR, as we always have been. There are a few trade-offs that we have to make, so we’ll have to go back to the drawing board and figure out which moves we have to make sure that we are compliant. It’s too early to say, obviously, because Archie is a fantastic player, as are all of the players who have given it their all, but every season brings changes, so I can’t really speak to that just yet. We’ll see what happens.

Gray would help strengthen the heart of midfield at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, especially with Tanguy Ndombele having his contract mutually terminated by the club. Should they wish to sign the talented player, they will have to meet Leeds’ reported £30m asking price.
