Aston Villa Wants to Sign £27 Million Star With Barkley

Aston Villa is considering signing Journalist Fabrizio Romano told GIVEMESPORT that Giovani Lo Celso plays midfield for Tottenham Hotspur.

This summer, the Villans have their sights set on the 28-year-old, as Unai Emery is well-versed in Lo Celso from his time at Villarreal and Paris Saint-Germain.

But according to Romano, Villa’s present priorities are closing the deal for Ross Barkley, a Luton Town player hoping to rejoin the Premier League following a strong campaign.

Barkley, who revitalized his career at Luton despite the team being relegated back to the Championship, is apparently “a big fan” of Emery’s.

The 30-year-old will make his Villa Park comeback after a three-year hiatus. Barkley played a significant role for Dean Smith’s team when he joined the team on loan from Chelsea in the 2020–21 season.

Romano says Villa won’t make a decision on Lo Celso until Barkley arrives because the teams aren’t currently in advanced talks about the Argentine’s trade.

Last season, Lo Celso had minimal action under Ange Postecoglou. The attacking midfielder had returned from Villarreal in the summer in the hopes of making an impression on the new manager.

Under Postecoglou, the 28-year-old made just 494 minutes of Premier League action and scored four goals in 22 games.
Talks with Lo Celso Villa is currently awaiting Ross Barkley’s arrival.

Speaking to GMS, Romano disclosed that Villa had not made any progress in negotiations with Lo Celso this summer:

Because Unai Emery is so familiar with the player, other clubs in Europe, including Villa, are also interested.

However, Ross Barkley, who is anticipated to join the team from Luton Town, is now Villa’s first priority in that role. After that, we’ll see whether they choose to pursue talks with Lo Celso. As of right now, nothing has progressed.

After first joining Tottenham on loan from Real Betis in August 2019, Lo Celso made an impression under Mauricio Pochettino. Eventually, Spurs chose to sign him on a permanent £27 million contract at the end of the season.

Lo Celso made 108 appearances for Tottenham across all competitions after earning his first start of the 2019 season, tallying eight assists and ten goals.

Lo Celso, who Sevilla president Jose Castro called a “magnificent” player, may be rejoining Villa manager Unai Emery for the third time in his management career. The Argentinean played for Emery at PSG for two seasons and won a domestic treble in 2017–18.

In 2022, the 28-year-old had another successful six-month loan at Villarreal, where Emery was also manager prior to accepting the Villa position.
