‘£15k-per-week’ man among 15 players officially leaving Sunderland today as contracts expire

Due to contract expiration, 15 players officially left Sunderland this morning.

As of right now, Bradley Dack and Corry Evans are no longer employed with Sundland because their contracts have expired.

Evans, who signed from Blackburn Rovers, made 67 appearances during his three seasons at the club. He was a key member of the team that earned promotion from League One and later stabilized in the Championship. He leaves after just getting better from a serious ACL injury.

Evans is one of the four senior team players whose contracts expired this summer; Dack also left the team following an injury-plagued campaign. The former Blackburn Rovers player was said to be among the Black Cats’ higher earners, bringing in about £15,000 a week, during his brief one-season tenure at the Stadium of Light.

After a loan at Carlisle United, Jack Diamond will depart from Sunderland after the club decided not to take up the one-year extension on his existing contract. The winger is currently a part of Stockport County. Ellis Taylor, a fellow academy graduate, also left today. Taylor played a crucial role in the under-21 team’s run to the Premier League 2 play-off final, which they ultimately lost to Tottenham Hotspur.

With contracts set to expire on June 30, youth players Ben Creamer, Cameron Wilson, Connor Pye, Daniel Obolo, Harry Gardiner, Jayden Sekete, Joe Ryder, Kailem Beattie, Michael Spellman, and Thomas Chiabi have also formally left Sunderland.

“Everyone at Sunderland AFC would like to thank our departing players for their professionalism and commitment and we wish them well for the future,” the statement from the club said when the retained list was revealed in May.
