Official: Godfrey from Everton is signed by Atlanta

Ben Godfrey, a defender for Everton, has joined Atalanta in a move reportedly worth €10 million with bonuses.

For the 26-year-old, who flew in and had his physical this morning before signing the deal at the Zingonia training field, everything happened extremely quickly.

Godfrey is a central defender with two senior caps for England. He can also play right back or as a defensive midfielder.

After graduating from York City’s academy, he played for Norwich and Shrewsbury before joining Everton for €27.5 million in October 2020.

Since his deal was set to expire in June 2025, Atalanta was entitled to sign him for about €10 million (€9 million + bonuses of €1 million).

But according to rumours this evening from Sky Sport Italia, the total might come to €12 million with add-ons.

Godfrey’s opportunity in Atlanta

Godfrey is La Dea’s second season acquisition. They also exercised their option to purchase Charles De Ketelaere from Milan after a loan period.

Over his career, he appeared in 112 Premier League games and provided three assists.

After defeating Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the Europa League final, Atalanta won the competition and earned a spot in the Champions League for the following year.
