Dutch-Nigerian striker is personally called by Man Utd manager to discourage him from joining the Red

Joshua Zirkzee, a striker from Nigeria who is Dutch, was personally phoned by Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag to pitch him on joining the Red Devils during the summer transfer window, according to Sky Sport Italia via Football Italia.

The Bologna marksman has been one of the Premier League team’s main goals this summer, and ten Hag seems eager to obtain his signature.

Manchester United is eager to acquire another central forward despite acquiring Rasmus Højlund from Atalanta in the summer, given their struggles in the closing third of the season and the loss of Anthony Martial.

After establishing himself as one of the best young players in the top five Leagues in Europe the previous season and winning the Serie A Best Young Player title, Zirkzee has become their primary target.

Manchester United is aware of the 23-year-old’s €40 million release clause, which is set to expire in August, as disclosed by transfer analyst Fabrizio Romano.

The club is rumoured to be having internal talks about the cost of the agreement, which will include his agent’s alleged €15 million commission demand.

The Red Devils may have an advantage in this competition because AC Milan is rumoured to still be in the running for the Bayern Munich Academy product. Despite having agreed to contractual terms with the forward, they are unwilling to pay the commission that his agent is requesting.
