Tonight (8pm kickoff) is the round of 16 match between the Danes and Germany. The Danes finished second in Group C, behind England.

The previous Euros saw Hjulmand’s team go to the semi-finals, when they were barely defeated by the Three Lions after extra time.

The Danes were knocked out of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar during the group stage following a disappointing performance which saw them collect just one point from their three games.

Hjulmand had two successful stints with Nordsjaelland before that, when he won the Danish Superliga in 2011–12. Along with Lyngby, he also declared for the Danish First Division in 2006–07.

Additionally, he had a brief stint in Germany coaching FC Mainz, where he was fired after just nine months, having won just five of his 24 games in charge.

Tomorrow is the first day of the month that Kompany has been at Bayern Munich, having left Turf Moor.

Since then, a number of people have been connected to the position, including Ruud van Nistelrooy, Frank Lampard, and Liam Rosenior.

Alongside Mike Jackson, Bellamy, a former number two for Kompany, is currently the team’s acting head coach. Together, they are in charge of the players’ first week of preseason training.
