Wow: Nottingham Forest now set to be offered “fantastic” UCL winner by Murillo suitor – report

Nottingham Forest reportedly offered a Champions League-winning defender in a swap deal for current star Murillo to meet Premier League profit and sustainability standards.

Nottingham Forest Transfer News

The Midlands club must sell players this summer to comply with FFP, including Orel Mangala and Moussa Niakhate, who are apparently leaving the City Ground. And, while such sales will likely help Forest avoid any Premier League penalties this summer, the club may still be forced to say goodbye to Murillo in the months ahead.

The central defender had a fantastic season last year, standing out as one of the Midlands’ best players. Still only 21 years old, the curiosity of some of Europe’s major teams is unsurprising, but one offer could still benefit Forest this summer.

Chelsea is reportedly offering Trevoh Chalobah and cash to sign Murillo, who is valued at £70 million by Nottingham Forest. The Chelsea academy graduate won the Champions League with the Blues in 2021, defeating Manchester City, but his status at Stamford Bridge is now in jeopardy.

Tosin Adarabioyo’s arrival raises worries about Chalobah’s future at Chelsea, potentially allowing Forest to quickly replace Murillo. Chalobah, a 24-year-old centre defender, would be a valuable addition to Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad this summer.

“Fantastic” Chalobah can replace Murillo

At his best, Chalobah is a Champions League-caliber defence, and if Forest lose Murillo this summer, he makes ideal replacement. Given Chelsea’s fondness for Murillo, Forest might work out a straightforward swap deal to get out of their PSR threat with a ready-made replacement and cash in their wallets.

emier League stats 23/24 (via FBref) Trevoh Chalobah Murillo
Minutes 952 2789
Progressive Passes per 90 2.92 2.87
Tackles Won per 90 1.13 1
Ball Recoveries per 90 4.34 4.71

The figures clearly demonstrate that Chalobah is capable of filling the potential vacuum left by Murillo, but they also highlight how much he struggled for minutes at Chelsea last season.

Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel praised Chalobah at the outset of his career, calling him “fantastic” (via Football365). He receives all of the acclaim, and it is well earned. Two fantastic matchups. He played friendlies against Arsenal and Tottenham before playing 120 minutes on Wednesday, 90 today, and scoring. It’s amazing that such things happen in sports. “A perfect day for him.”

Since that first game, the academy graduate has plummeted down the pecking order and may be in serious need of a summer escape.
