Tottenham is reportedly going to offer Heung-min Son a new two-year contract with higher pay, according to former Everton manager Keith Wyness.
The 66-year-old, who ran a football consultancy advising elite teams after serving as CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009, stated the forward, 31, will still be valued at £100 million despite his advanced age in an interview with Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.
Son’s contract expires in 2025, but Tottenham has the option to extend it by an additional 12 months; however, no decision has been made public.
The captain of Spurs, who has been linked to moves to Turkey and Saudi Arabia in the past, scored 17 goals in the Premier League this season.
In an effort to expand their alternatives up front, Tottenham has reportedly spoken with the agents of Lille striker Jonathan David, according to a report from Football Insider on Monday, June 24.
According to Wyness, Tottenham star Son is still worth “£100m.”
Wyness stated on the Insider Track podcast of Football Insider: “Tottenham faces challenges.”
“It’s likely that they will raise his pay, but not by a significant amount.
“Given his valuation, even with his dismal season, I believe he’s still got to be worth about £100 million.”
“Hopefully, he will return rejuvenated and with a clearer understanding of what Ange Postecoglou needs from him. Ideally, Ange will also have the resources necessary to further solidify the team and formation surrounding him.
The manager‘s message is that the Spurs want to score goals for free, and Son is essential to that.
“I believe Tottenham will want to give him a two-year contract extension.”
