Three Chelsea players named as potential Leicester City signings in Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall deal

Leicester City could sell their top midfielder in the next 48 hours as they try to comply with PSR, and a deal with Brighton appears to have fallen through.

David Datro Fofana or Cesare Casadei could join Leicester City as part of a deal to sign Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, reports say.

City could sell their star midfielder before Sunday to meet with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and prevent further violations. Chelsea has made a late bid for Dewsbury-Hall, after a deal with Brighton fell through due to his unwillingness to join the Seagulls.

Brighton’s transfer involved a player transaction, with Poland international Jakub Moder moving in the opposite direction. It would have been the latest in a string of mutually beneficial’swap’ deals between Premier League clubs as they seek to meet PSR.

Three names have surfaced as prospective possibilities to replace Dewsbury-Hall at the King Power Stadium if he leaves Chelsea. One of those will be familiar to City fans, since Casadei was on loan at the club for the first half of last season.

The Italian midfielder had a promising start, scoring a last-minute winner against Cardiff, but then struggled for several months. Just when he appeared to be settling into his role in Enzo Maresca’s team, and with a promising run of games ahead of him due to Wilfred Ndidi’s absence, he was recalled by Chelsea, where he played less than 90 minutes for the rest of the season under Mauricio Pochettino.

If Dewsbury-Hall departs, City will be short on central midfielders, with Dennis Praet also leaving this summer and Wilfred Ndidi perhaps following suit. Steve Cooper’s alternatives in the centre of the park would be Harry Winks, Hamza Choudhury, and Boubakary Soumare.

Fofana and Armando Broja are attackers. Fofana played the season on loan with Union Berlin, competing in the Champions League, before joining Burnley for the second half of the season following a difficult period in Germany. Fofana scored four goals in 15 Premier League appearances at Turf Moor, but it was insufficient to keep the Clarets in the top flight.

The 21-year-old joined Chelsea for £11 million from Molde in January 2023. During his final season with the Norwegian club, he scored 22 goals in 39 appearances.

Broja recently concluded representing Albania at the Euros after a goal-less campaign. He made a mark on loan at Southampton in 2021-22, netting nine goals across all competitions. He was welcomed back into the Chelsea first squad upon his return, however midway through the season, he sustained an ACL tear.

The 22-year-old returned to action last season, scoring twice in 19 games for Chelsea before going to Fulham for the second half. In eight appearances at Craven Cottage, he went without scoring.

Unless Cooper intends to play with two up front, any deal for a striker would most likely result in one of City’s current trio leaving. Jamie Vardy will stay after signing a one-year contract this summer, while Patson Daka and Tom Cannon may be sold or farmed out.
