Ange Postecoglou blocks Tottenham from selling 19-year-old youngster as he thinks he’s a future star

Tottenham Hotspur’s summer of departures could be set to continue as Ange Postecoglou looks to really streamline his squad for the upcoming campaign.

The lone player to return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer is Timo Werner, who is here for the duration of the season on loan.

When it comes to player departures, though, things have been quite different as Daniel Levy and Ange Postecoglou have been trying to get rid of a lot of players.

After assuming control of the Spurs team last summer, the Australian has had a full year to evaluate which players he wants to keep around.

Several of those players have already left, as Spurs made significant choices to let others go, including Tanguy Ndombele..

And it seems a decision is now going to have to be made on one of the club’s most promising young talents.

Tottenham considering loan as Ange Postecoglou blocks sale

The 2023–2024 season may not have seen a lot of minutes played, but it was a successful one for the club’s academy nonetheless.

Although Postecoglou found it difficult to delegate playing time to the first team’s young players, Hotspur Way produced some true success stories.

As Wayne Burnett’s U21 team emerged victorious in Premier League 2, striker Will Lankshear was awarded Player of the Season.

Lankshear has received interest from the likes of Middlesbrough this summer already.

And according to GiveMeSport, his forward partner Jamie Donley is now subject of interest to a loan deal from Oxford City.

One of the teams expressing interest is the recently promoted Championship team, as Spurs are reportedly amenable to his leaving this summer.

It is emphasised, nevertheless, that Donley will only be traded on a loan basis because Postecoglou and Levy are extremely interested in the 19-year-old.

The Tottenham star is reportedly attracting interest from other Football League teams, so Tottenham must decide where they believe he can best develop his talent..

Tottenham need to handle Jamie Donley carefully

In the report, Donley is likened as the ‘next Harry Kane‘ which is something which all Spurs attackers would dream of being labelled as.

Across all competitions last season, the 19-year-old scored eight goals and contributed an outstanding 17 assists.

Spurs have, however, seen a number of talented players come through their academy and appear to be the next big thing, only to suffer miserably when out on loan.

Look no further than Dane Scarlett, who appeared poised to enter the men’s game until experiencing problems while out on loan with Portsmouth and Ipswich in recent years.

Donley’s growth will be greatly anticipated by Spurs, and securing a suitable club will undoubtedly be crucial.
