Despite Guglielmo Vicario’s respectable performance in goal, Tottenham appears to want to add more depth to that position. They may have already put out an offer to lure Joan Garcia to England since they are interested in his skills, according to a report from AS.
Garcia’s development at Espanyol has been remarkable; in 2021, he was elevated to the first team. Towards the close of the previous season, the 23-year-old received his first extended run in the first team, and he did not let it down. In 21 games, he played a part and in 12 of them, he kept a clean sheet. He was a major factor in their promotion to the top division in Spain.
His impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed and Spurs are the ones keen on signing him. They added Vicario to their ranks last summer for €17.5 million from Empoli. While he has done a decent overall job, certain weaknesses in his game have been highlighted on multiple occasions. To further bolster their defence, Ange Postecoglou is looking to add another goalkeeper to the mix and they feel Garcia could be a great signing for the short as well as long run. He could compete with Vicario for a place in the starting XI.
The Spanish custodian and the team have a deal that expires in the summer of 2028. The guy is eager to remain at Espanyol and is thrilled to be their top player in the top division of Spain. Espanyol is desperate to keep him in their ranks.
Tottenham’s interest in him, though, is tempting. According to the source, they may have made an offer for the 23-year-old, who has a €25 million release clause, already. Espanyol has a firm position about his future; they won’t sell unless the offer either exactly matches the release clause or is somewhat less.
