- The Pittsburgh Steelers had a busy offseason, but some poor decisions could come back to haunt them this year.
When you examine the Steelers’ hectic offseason attentively, it is not all sunshine and rainbows.
Since assuming the role of general manager in Pittsburgh, Omar Khan has primarily been promoted as a hero. He should be commended greatly for the majority of the work he has done in building teams and selecting specific players since taking over. Even if he has made several excellent plays, he is nevertheless subject to occasional setbacks.
Khan was quite active during the previous offseason; some of his deals were wise, while others might have a negative impact on the squad this year.
Although Khan and the front office produced another excellent draft class, they were also unable to improve a few places on their roster. Additionally, they deducted from several of last year’s strong points and upgraded them to question marks for forward. Watch out for certain actions made over the previous offseason that could harm the Steelers’ chances.
The Steelers willfully fail to locate a replacement for Diontae Johnson.
Many believed that Diontae Johnson’s trade would make room for another receiver to replace him.
In exchange for Johnson, the Steelers received an accomplished starting cornerback, but they essentially got him for nothing. It appears that they had no other viable options for receivers in the wings and were merely looking to get rid of Johnson. Although there is still a chance that this move will result in another signing or trade to replace Johnson, the likelihood grows with every day.
This might be the worst offseason decision made by the Steelers, provided they can’t figure out a good method to replace Johnson.

Pittsburgh required an improvement at cornerback, not just in Joey Porter Jr.’s slot but also at his opposite corner.
The Steelers’ defense was vulnerable at this position, but they made an effort to strengthen it this offseason. Khan moved Donte Jackson from Carolina to the receiver position in an attempt to acquire some experience at cornerback. Throughout his career, he hasn’t been the best cornerback, but he still gets a lot of starting opportunities and should be a competent second outside back.
Not upgrading the defensive line this past offseason with any long-term plans
Cam Heyward has made it clear that he is open to leaving in free agency the next year or that he wants a new contract.
The problem of the Steelers ignoring the defensive trenches for too long has only been made worse by that issue. They did not add any young, quality players over the previous offseason. Next year, they may always give it another go, but by then it might be too little, too late. The Steelers’ defense will have gaps up front if Heyward is unable to regain his previous level of play and Larry Ogunjobi continues to be a letdown.
Two QB uncertainty might ruin Pittsburgh’s season.
With their quarterback dilemma, Pittsburgh is about to enter the real boom or bust phase of their summer. By adding both Justin Fields and Russell Wilson, they at least attempted to stir things up. These two men are trying to make a comeback in separate spheres of their careers. The current Steelers campaign is.
