Sunderland’s new Hummel gear — “Take my money!” or “I’ll pass, thanks”?

Tom Albrighton says…

Indeed. This publication is a goldmine for the club.

Sunderland has been receiving subpar template kits for a long time, so this is a remarkable departure.

The attention to detail on the uniforms and the ways in which they connect the team and the community are astounding. From the ship emblem in the stripes to the shipyard artwork around the neckline, the attention to detail is both a brilliant design element and a fine finishing touch.

This release is so amazing because it fits in with the current retro trends and offers everything fans could possibly want in a kit.

The combination of design and detail has created something that appeals to a wider audience in addition to Sunderland supporters. The choices of

It goes without saying that I’ll be buying what is sure to become an iconic kit. What’s more, I can’t wait to finally buy my daughter her first-ever strip — quite fitting now that she walks around screaming “HAWAY THE LADS” all the time.

Joseph Tulip says…

We’ve had better kits in a long time—I don’t say that lightly—than these ones. I tend to be critical and, perhaps because I’m getting older, I compare every release to my all-time favourites from the 1990s.

The club should be commended for working with a firm that pays attention to detail and quality control to negotiate a customised range, as they have done with Hummel, in order to resume their association. This renewed alliance was made with that nostalgic in mind.

Not to start a new argument about badges, but this home shirt would have been ideal for a return to the original ship badge, which would have fit in better with the design. That being said, it’s just my opinion and not a critique.

The sponsor is obviously not the most clearly

Ten out of ten for Hummel and the club. The whole range looks smart and with a new retail arrangement with Fanatics and a new club shop about to open, this is a huge step in the right direction.

Anth Gair says…

I haven’t been this enthusiastic about owning a kit in a long time.

These kits are some of the smoothest we’ve seen in a few generations, and I’m by no means a fashion expert. As a Sunderland supporter, I never imagined seeing the Hummel chevrons again in my lifetime, thus it brings back a lot of nostalgia.

It will never feel the same to be able to wear this uniform again, with its updated badge and other tributes to the history of the city, and to be able to purchase one for my children, who will probably remember it more than the others at their young age..

Oh, and that goalkeeper strip. Phwoar, TAKE MY MONEY.

I wore holes in the last one back in the early 90’s!
