Report: How much Newcastle wanted to pay Everton for Dominic Calvert-Lewin as deal collapses

Newcastle United’s interest in Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been put on hold after a proposed trade to Tyneside fell through.

The 27-year-old has been linked with a move to Newcastle United this summer, and it was expected that an agreement would be made with Everton. Additionally, it was believed that Calvert-Lewin was eager to relocate.

However, Newcastle cancelled the deal due to Everton’s asking price. After the Toffees refused to lower their demands, the Magpies opted to take their business elsewhere. As a result, Yankuba Minteh’s aspirations of joining Everton were dashed.

The Times stated that Everton wanted roughly £37 million for Calvert-Lewin, which was too much for Newcastle. They were hoped to lower the price, but that is not going to happen in the near future.

The contract may be renewed later this summer, but it is now off.

Newcastle United valued Dominic Calvert-Lewin at £25m

Everton is seeking a high price for Calvert-Lewin, similar to Newcastle’s initial bid in 2022.

Newcastle are unwilling to pay ridiculous amounts for the England international, according to a fresh claim.

According to Give Me Sport, Newcastle United values Calvert-Lewin at about £25 million.

That is £12 million less than Everton want for a player who is nearing the final year of his contract and may depart for free next summer.

Newcastle will wait to see if Everton lower their demands

That contract predicament is why Newcastle does not have as high a value on Calvert-Lewin as Everton does, and why they may pursue him again later this summer.

If Calvert-Lewin is unlikely to sign a new contract, Everton may need to sell. The ball is now in Newcastle’s court.

Meanwhile, the Magpies can consider alternative striker options, as they will need to replace Callum Wilson if he departs the club. It doesn’t have to be Calvert-Lewin, but he’s a player Eddie Howe admires and would love to work with at St James Park.

He may yet get the opportunity, but only if Everton lowers their asking price. However, it would be surprising if they eventually conclude that £25 million is a realistic price, even if that is all Newcastle believes he deserves.
