Newcastle Is Still Upbeat About Getting a “Outstanding” Star

After the Premier League’s PSR deadline has passed, Newcastle United will probably step up their transfer activity in the coming days. Ben Jacobs of GIVEMESPORT has revealed that the Tyneside club may make a larger bid for Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford after having one earlier in the month rejected.

Arguably the most talented young goalie in the nation, Trafford had a little career setback the previous season when he was unable to maintain Burnley in the Premier League, as the Clarets were relegated from the top division with just 24 points. Although teammate Arijanet Muric was their primary goalkeeper in their Championship title triumph the season before, he is still a strong candidate to start in the Championship and might be traded, with Newcastle being a possible destination.

Newcastle Has Already Witnessed Rejection of Trafford Bid

Burnley turned down a bid from the Magpies earlier this month for Trafford’s services, but it has since become clear that the Tyneside team wants a young goalkeeper to step in for the long run to replace Martin Dubravka, who is rumored to be heading to Celtic to take over for the retiring Joe Hart.

Burnley paid roughly £14 million for Trafford’s signing, with add-ons worth an additional £19 million. However, the Clarets are unlikely to have contributed to that amount given their relegation at the first round of negotiations and Trafford’s two clean sheet totals under Vincent Kompany.

Jacobs: In regards to Trafford, Newcastle’remain optimistic’

In the next two months, the Magpies still have the option to sign their man.

Eddie Howe prioritizes signing Trafford, according to Jacobs, who spoke exclusively to GIVEMESPORT. However, there is still more work to be done before they can even consider signing the Cumbrian. He declared:

“Goaltender James Trafford from Burnley is still a target for Newcastle when it comes to incoming priorities. Burnley is seeking £20 million for the transaction, while Newcastle’s most recent bid was roughly £16 million, but it had a lot of add-ons.

Therefore, in order to bring it across the finish line, Newcastle would need to increase their worth in addition to offering a higher guaranteed price. Still, they maintain their optimism.”

England’s Shining Light Arrived at Trafford

His youthful Lions performances have prepared him for the future.

Given his performances for England in the under-21 European Championship in Georgia last summer, Trafford was a much-heralded signing when he joined the Clarets from Manchester City.

Trafford kept perfect records in all of his games. His stoppage-time double-save from a penalty against Spain in the final made him a household name in the UK. When Burnley finalized his signing, he appeared to be a star for the future at Turf Moor, with his performance being called “outstanding.”

However, a lackluster performance, made worse by a defense that gave up the third-most goals in the Premier League the previous season, saw him benched in favor of Arijanet Muric toward the conclusion of what proved to be a difficult debut for the former City young player in the top division.

Despite this, Trafford was called up to the England preliminary squad for EURO 2024, where he trained alongside players such Aaron Ramsdale, Jordan Pickford.

The 21-year-old may undoubtedly reach the pinnacle of the game if he can settle down at Newcastle and pick up skills from Nick Pope, one of England’s best goalkeepers. This is especially true given that goalkeepers typically develop later in life than outfield players.
