Newcastle have ‘made moves’ to sign £21m Euro 2024 top scorer to solve striker problem

Callum Wilson is still expected to depart Newcastle United this summer, but Eddie Howe has to bring in a new striker.

Eddie Howe has stated that he would want to keep Wilson at Newcastle because he would be too expensive to replace, but the truth is that his injury record and age are working against him, and with just a year remaining on his deal, selling him this summer while there is still interest makes sense.

However, whether he stays or leaves only affects how many strikers Howe will need to buy, as we simply cannot go into another season with only two strikers in the club.

The Magpies may have a more cost-effective option, but they will face stiff competition.

Georges Mikautadze has caught the eye of Newcastle

Georgia’s Euro 2024 hero, Georges Mikautadze, became the tournament’s top scorer last night when he converted a penalty to increase his country’s lead over Portugal. It was his third goal in as many games, and he also had an assist.

It’s no surprise that his talents are drawing a lot of interest from his club, Metz (beware the Judderman, my darling), who are bracing themselves for a slew of offers for the 23-year old.

Mikautadze scored 14 goals in 22 games for Metz past season, adding four assists in a team that was demoted from Ligue 1.

Newcastle need to act now and give Metz what they want

Newcastle has reportedly entered the hunt to recruit the Georgian forward this summer.According to Football Insider, numerous large clubs are interested, including Borussia Dortmund and Napoli.

Metz is expected to seek €25 million (£21 million) for his services, and if that is the so, Eddie Howe should lose no time getting on the horn and making that offer right immediately. There’s no need to strive to save money; instead, get in first, get in quickly, and do whatever it takes. We would return much of the transfer money by selling Callum Wilson before even considering PSR’s amortisation, allowing us to bring in another striker.

The number of messages I received throughout the game last night from fellow Toon fans urging us to sign Mikautadze was incredible. At least three. In all seriousness, he looks the part, and I don’t think we should sleep on this one.
