‘He will leave the club’: Fabrizio Romano confirms £55m player will leave Tottenham this summer

Fabrizio Romano has provided additional information on Tottenham Hotspur’s player-plus-cash swap deal to recruit Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey.

The North Londoners have been particularly active throughout this summer’s transfer window.

Ange Postecoglou has re-signed Timo Werner on loan, while Spurs have let Tanguy Ndombele, Ryan Sessegnon, Japhet Tanganga, and Ivan Perisic leave.

Tottenham are likely to add a number of players during this transfer season, and several names have been associated with the club in recent weeks.

One of them is Aston Villa’s Ramsey, and Romano has shared his knowledge about Spurs’ rumoured bid.

Fabrizio Romano shares update on Tottenham’s Giovani Lo Celso and Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey

Tottenham attempted to sign Jack Grealish from Aston Villa through a player-plus-cash swap deal.

Daniel Levy attempted to sign the now-Manchester City star with an offer of £3 million plus Josh Onomah, but Villa rejected the offer, which proved to be the correct move (The Athletic).

Spurs attempted a similar deal in 2024, but this offer is far superior than the one they made for Grealish years ago.

According to reports on Wednesday, Tottenham have made an offer to Aston Villa to sign Ramsey this summer. The £20 million bid includes Giovani Lo Celso in the transaction.

Villa, as expected, rejected the suggestion!

Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the news of Tottenham’s bid is real.

However, this occurred some weeks ago, not recently. Romano verified that Villa quickly refused the offer, and that was the end of it.

The writer then discussed Lo Celso’s future, confirming that the Argentina international will depart the club this summer.

On Playback, he said that Tottenham made a bid to Aston Villa for Ramsey, including Gio Lo Celso and money.

“But it happened weeks ago, not this week or even last week. It happened weeks ago. Aston Villa quickly said no.

“Gio Lo Celso has a good chance of leaving Tottenham in the summer transfer window.” I believe Gio Lo Celso will leave Tottenham.

“Still exploring the options, Betis are there, Unai Emery knows him well, there are several opportunities, but he will leave the club.”

What should Tottenham do now?

Tottenham signed Lo Celso from Real Betis for £55 million (Sky Sports).

The Argentina international is an extremely skilled player, but for whatever reason, he has unable to establish himself as a regular starter at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Lo Celso remained with Tottenham for the 2023/24 season, but had previously spent two seasons on loan. He is going to enter the final year of his contract, and it makes little sense to extend it.

Tottenham should sell Lo Celso and make another offer for Ramsey, including more cash and the Argentine, after their last proposal was rejected.

It is unclear whether Villa will consider a greater offer.
