Chielinical critical ;A great substitute rather than a permanent starter

Giorgio Chiellini has claimed that he would like to see more from Rafael Leao, who is not yet on the same level as a player like Vinicius Junior.

Leao had an eventful season in 2023–24, with 15 goals and 14 assists in all competitions. However, it was also a year in which he suffered through more goal droughts and fluctuated between brilliant and anonymous performances.

In recent days, there have been rumours that Saudi clubs, particularly Al-Hilal, are interested in Leao. The Saudi Pro League champions are prepared to give Milan €100 million for Leao and will present the winger with a lucrative deal, but the player doesn’t appear interested.

In the meantime, he has had a tough start to Euro 2024 with Portugal. Roberto Martinez decided to use him in a front two during their first two group games but he was taken off in each having received yellow cards in both matches for simulation, meaning he missed the final group fixture.

During his interview with Sky, Chiellini was asked about Leao, a player he had to deal with while he was still at Juventus. He spoke his opinions without holding back, and Sportal did not hold back.

“We all wish he was [developing] a little bit more, but he’s not: he doesn’t have the numbers, and most of his potential is still unrealized. He remarked, “I don’t know if he’ll ever get it in his head to score more goals and dish out more assists.

“As of right now, he is, in my opinion, a fantastic backup rather than a long-term starter for a team hoping to win the Champions League or the European Championship. He is not if Vinicius and Rodrigo serve as the standard.
