Newcastle agree £40m deal – but move in doubt due to Yankuba Minteh demands – Report

According to rumours this afternoon, Yankuba Minteh’s projected move to Lyon is now in jeopardy due to the winger’s unwillingness to join the Ligue 1 club.

According to Matt Hughes of The Sun, Newcastle have reached a £40 million agreement with Lyon. However, the Gambian player refuses to leave the Premier League and has denied personal terms.

This would be the second prospective move that has fallen through in the last week, with Everton’s pursuit of the 19-year-old called off after Newcastle walked out of talks to sign Toffees striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Newcastle must raise finances before the Profit and Sustainability deadline on June 30, and it is believed that Minteh has been chosen as a suitable player to sacrifice in order to avoid a points deduction for breaking Premier League rules.

According to the source, Minteh has assured Toon leaders that he will not be compelled to make a trade that does not suit him, despite the club’s need to sell in the coming days.
