Ange Postecoglou’s Benjamin Sesko Arsenal transfer claim leaves ITV studio in hysterics

Arsenal were connected with a big-money move for RB Leipzig and Slovenia striker Benjamin Sesko until his u-turn, and Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou has provided an amusing judgement.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou made Gary Neville and Roy Keane laugh with a funny joke about Benjamin Sesko.

On Tuesday, the Australian contributed to ITV’s coverage of England’s disappointing draw with Slovenia. Sesko, a former Arsenal target, started for them in Cologne.

The Gunners were considering activating the £55 million clause in his contract with RB Leipzig, with Sesko reportedly keen to a transfer. Instead of pursuing a summer transfer, he elected to sign a new contract with the German club. Spurs manager Postecoglou cited this fact and felt that Sesko made the correct decision.

On ITV, he stated, “I think a big club would have looked at him this year, and it’s a good move for him to stay there for another year.” I believe there is still room for improvement in him, but he has excellent traits for a striker position.

Mark Pougatch, the presenter, asked: “Is that the Tottenham manager saying it’s a smart move not to go to Arsenal?”. Postecoglou responded with a “No comment”.

Postecoglou’s punditry colleagues, Gary Neville, Ian Wright, and Roy Keane, laughed out loud at his comments. In the meanwhile, Sesko hopes to continue his run at Euro 2024.

Slovenia finished the group stages with three points and will look to advance as one of the best-performing third-place teams. Sesko explains why he chose Leipzig over Arsenal after signing a new contract.

He stated, “I had a great first year at RB Leipzig and am quite glad to be here. Team, club, city, and fans – the entire package is absolutely excellent in my opinion. For me, an early contract extension was the logical next step.

“Even though I didn’t play or score as much in the first half of the season, this period was critical for me and my growth. I sense a lot of trust and appreciation around the club, which is essential for performing to my maximum capacity. With my goals, I was able to give back, especially in the second half of the season.

“We have a team with a lot of potential and a good combination of young and experienced players. I’m incredibly excited to take the next stages with this team. In my first season, we’ve already accomplished a lot and demonstrated our ability to play high-quality, fantastic football on the pitch. But there is still a lot to be done, and that is now our shared goal.”
