Alan Pardew has stated that Dominic Calvert-Lewin leaving Everton during this transfer window would be a “huge blow.”
The Everton striker has been linked to a summer departure from Goodison Park as the team considers selling to allay new worries over the Profit and Sustainability regulations.
Calvert-Lewin, an England striker, is nearing the end of his contract and is reportedly attracting interest from West Ham and Newcastle United [Luke Edwards, June 24]. Pardew, speaking on talkSPORT on June 26, believes it would be difficult for Everton to let him go.
Pardew stated, “He’s as good as anybody in the Premier League when he’s fit first and foremost.”
“Aerially, he has a leap that is sometimes just unavoidable in the box.
Therefore, I believe Newcastle would be wise to sign him, but Everton and Sean Dyche, who have their own problems with FFP and ownership, would suffer a great deal if they did.
“Sean Dyche won’t want him to leave,”

Calvert-Lewin was much more regularly involved for Everton last season after a couple of injury-hit campaigns but managed only seven Premier League goals in 32 outings. The 27-year-old’s form was a concern at times but there is no doubt that the Toffees are just a better side when he plays due to his aerial threat and ability to link play. Moreover, while a fee in the region of £40million might seem like good business on paper for a player in the last year of their contract, replacing him will not come cheap.
It would be a difficult decision for the Toffees to make, as Beto struggled in his first season to prove he could handle the demands of the Premier League and has been linked to a Goodison Park himself. Of course, it is a decision they might have to make given concerns over meeting Profit and Sustainability regulations, though there isn’t much pressure to cash in on Calvert-Lewin given the rumors of Jarrad Branthwaite and Madou Onana leaving in the summer [Sky Germany, June 25]. In other Everton news, the Toffees are scheduled to face a European powerhouse for the signing of Armando Broja this summer.
