After ignoring Unai Emery’s admission, Aston Villa was brought in to sign a player valued at €60 million.

Aston Villa are one of the clubs in the race to sign Real Sociedad’s in the summer window.

AS claims that Aston Villa will “fight” with other teams in an attempt to get the 27-year-old’s talents.

In 44 games played last season, the attacking midfielder recorded nine assists and eight goals. His exploits, according to AS, have attracted the interest of Aston Villa, Juventus, AS Roma, and Napoli.

According to reports, the Serie A trio and Unai Emery’s team have communicated their interest to the player’s representation. They have also inquired about his circumstances and the prerequisites for signing him this summer.

None of these teams have made La Real a formal offer as of yet. A €60 million clause in Méndez’s contract expires in 2028. Real Sociedad will not negotiate his sale and will make reference to the clause in the event that potential buyers contact them.

Unai Emery simply stated two days ago that since he moved to Villa Park in 2022, Aston Villa has not shown interest in Mikel Merino of Real Sociedad or any other La Real player.

Despite not considering this, AS moved forward. Emery’s comments suggest that the Villans have been included purely for dramatic effect, possibly to put pressure on other interested teams.
