Released Aston Villa midfielder ‘set to secure transfer’ to Premier League rivals

Aston Villa released midfielder Abube Onuchukwu at the end of the season, along with a number of other academy graduates who were out of contract.

According to reports, released Aston Villa midfielder Abube Onuchukwu is expected to sign for Premier League rivals Ipswich Town on a free transfer. Onuchukwu joined Villa as an under-13 before signing a two-year scholarship in 2022.

Onuchukwu, along with Dylan Mitchell, Chisom Afoka, Frankie Ealing, Taylor-Jay Hart, Aaron O’Reilly, Edward Rowe, and Jack McDowell (who now plays for QPR), left Bodymoor Heath after not being offered new contracts by Villa.

According to TWTD, Onuchukwu will join the Tractor Boys’ under 21s for the upcoming season, so he won’t be out of football for long. Ipswich returned to the Premier League this season, their second promotion in a row under Kieran McKenna, and are currently looking for players to join their first-team squad.

However, there will be recruits to the academy, including Onuchukwu and Crystal Palace defender Leon Elliott.

Villa have made significant profits from their academy, including the sales of Jack Grealish, Cameron Archer, Jaden Philogene, Aaron Ramsey, and Carney Chukwuemeka. They have also sold Tim Iroegbunam and are set to sell Omari Kellyman to Chelsea for £19 million.
