Ace for Newcastle United Despite their lackluster results, Anthony Gordon has not played a single minute of football for England at the 2024 Euros.
The Three Lions have advanced to the competition’s final stages, but all hope and anticipation for “football coming home” has faded.
An unconvincing 1-0 win over Serbia was followed by an even duller draw with Denmark in which Gareth Southgate’s side looked lost and unorganised. With a star-studded bench at his disposal, fans are demanding changes to England‘s lineup when they face Slovenia on Tuesday evening. Concerns have been raised around Phil Foden‘s role in the side with the Manchester City star yet to replicate his form from the latest Premier League season. Even England teammate John Stones believes Foden would love a central role in the team which would subsequently free up a spot for Anthony Gordon to play on the left.

Even as a substitute, Gordon has not yet been given an opportunity in the team, despite England’s obvious weaknesses on the left.
Alan Shearer and Micah Richards discussed Gordon’s lack of time on the Rest is Football Podcast. The legend of Newcastle United brought up the fact that the 23-year-old hasn’t even been warming up on the sidelines.
“We’ve been begging for pace on the left side, so I’d go for Gordon and play him in his natural position, where he’s been electric and in great form for Newcastle this season,” Richards stated.
Shearer then chimed in to address Cole Palmer and Gordon, saying, “To be honest, I haven’t even seen them warming up, him [Palmer] or Gordon.”
Richards added, “That is the strange thing,” after acknowledging the point. That is peculiar.

If England were to finish their Euro campaign without Gordon playing a minute of football, that would be catastrophic.
It would be disastrous if Gordon did not play a single minute of football for England before the end of their Euro campaign.
Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden have both been forced into Southgate’s midfield thus far, but this is a tried-and-failed tactic.
Unlike any other England option on the table, Gordon is an aggressive runner who can make risky runs in behind.
Gordon has accomplished more than enough to be considered for a bench spot, even if he is not inserted right away.
