Report: ‘One of the top 10 players in Europe’ is on the verge of joining Tottenham Hotspur this summer

Tottenham are reportedly closing up on one of Europe’s most prolific strikers.

Since Harry Kane left last summer, the North Londoners have relied heavily on Son Heung-min to score.

With Richarlison not quite making an impression and maybe moving on, it became evident that a number nine was required this season.

Having said that, they are quite close to signing one.

Tottenham close to signing Santiago Gimenez

According to TUDN Radio’s Chiquis, Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez is nearing a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur.

The 23-year-old striker scored 26 goals and provided eight assists in 42 appearances for the Eredivisie club last season and has sparked extensive interest from clubs throughout Europe, including Liverpool.

According to the source, Feyenoord has received offers from both Tottenham and La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.

However, Atleti’s bid is lesser.

Santiago Gimenez price tag

Feyenoord has asked Atleti to match Tottenham’s proposal, but as things stand, they appear hesitant to go any higher.

Spurs’ proposal is expected to be close to the Dutch asking price of £42 million, however the exact amount is unknown.

Barring any late movement from Atleti, it appears that the only thing left to do is finalise personal terms, which are not considered to be an issue.

Gimenez, regarded as “one of the top ten players in Europe,” is presently playing for Mexico in the Copa America, thus negotiations will need to start during the event.

However, because he is ready to go to North London, terms should be quite simple to agree on.
