‘Done and sealed’ – Fabrizio Romano confirms Aston Villa deal is now imminent

Aston Villa are set to complete a huge summer transfer soon, according to Fabrizio Romano.

After weeks of intensive discussions, the Villans are now set to finalise the Douglas Luiz and Juventus exchange deal, with Samuel Iling Junior and Enzo Barrenechea joining Villa Park.

Fabrizio Romano, a popular and reliable transfer news journalist, has given the trade the ‘here we go’ status. All three players have medical checks set, with Iling Junior scheduled for Tuesday. Luiz and Barrenechea’s formalities will take place at comparable times.

It’s an important transaction because Villa will receive €28 million (£23.7 million) and two highly regarded prospects. The money raised represent an £8.7 million premium over the £15 million paid for Luiz by Manchester City in 2019, a significant boost as Villa seek profits to meet Premier League requirements.

Who are Iling Junior and Barrenechea?

Iling Junior has yet to make a significant impact at Juventus, but the 20-year-old has made numerous good cameo appearances off the bench in Serie A and the Champions League. The England Under-21 international appeared 24 times in the Italian top flight last season, scoring once and assisting twice.

Barrenechea, who replaced Weston McKennie in the exchange a few days ago, has consistently progressed through the ranks since joining Juve from FC Sion in 2020. The 23-year-old impressed on loan at Frosinone last season, appearing in 36 of the Serie A club’s 38 league appearances.

Iling Junior and Barrenechea will sign five-year contracts, keeping them at Villa Park until June 2029. Luiz, who had 22 goals and 24 assists in 204 appearances for Villa, will sign a contract of the same length with Juve.
