Italian giants AC Milan are looking to revamp their squad this summer, and one player could be set for a Premier League return as Newcastle circle for his signature.
Paulo Fonseca, the new manager who was formerly in charge of Roma, Lille, and Shakhtar Donetsk, takes over at San Siro in lieu of Stefano Pioli, who left after the team finished in second place in the league the previous season. However, Inter, City’s rivals, ultimately won the championship handily.
Many players may be sold this summer, according to reports in Italy. However, any interest in former Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori, who has been linked to Newcastle, will require an offer of at least £40–50 million to be taken into consideration.
Even though Newcastle have signed Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth on a free transfer, they still intend to sign another centre defender. They might have to go out on the market after losing out on Tosin Adarabioyo, who signed with Chelsea.
Toon keen to add to defence
Newcastle’s manager, Eddie Howe, acknowledged that his team didn’t play as well as he’d planned in the Premier League last season. Newcastle finished seventh and missed out on Europe due to Manchester United’s FA Cup victory.
“Our resources were put to the test in the Champion League. We had to dig deep during some difficult times due to injuries, but the guys never failed me. This is a season of advancement. Despite what the league table may suggest, our team has gotten stronger.
Howe stated, “I hope we show that in our league position next year.” We’ve had a successful season, but we still need to keep going and develop better. The camaraderie among the group in the staff and dressing room is really great. It’s not always the case though. Thus, yes, we do have a lot going for us.
Howe also acknowledged that, despite possessing one of the league’s top defences when they placed fourth the year before, Newcastle gave up too many goals in their previous campaign.
