Former Rangers manager Van Bronckhorst set for ‘shock raid’ to land ex-Celtic coach

Former Rangers manager Van Bronckhorst set for ‘shock raid’ to land ex-Celtic coach.

According to reports, Giovanni van Bronckhorst is planning a surprise move to sign Queen’s Park coach Anton McElhone to Besiktas.

The top position at the Turkish Super Lig team was recently awarded to the former Rangers manager.

It is also anticipated that he would rapidly acclimatise new members of the first team and backroom staff.

McElhone, who has experience at Celtic, Hibs, Tottenham Hotspur, and New England Revolution, seems to be Van Bronckhorst’s first choice to join Besiktas.

Van Bronckhorst reportedly plans to invade Queen’s Park in search of the highly-regarded coach, according to the Daily Record.

Prior to joining Queen’s Park as head of academy coaching at Hampden, McElhone was head of sport science at Celtic.

It is reported that Van Bronckhorst knew McElhone from when he managed Rangers in Scotland.

Van Bronckhorst, meantime, has acknowledged that he departed the Rangers “in the wrong way.”

“I don’t know if it makes it more difficult to return to a club you were previously successful at,” he remarked, insisting that his leaving still hurt.

“I went to Rangers as a manager after playing there. And I went out the wrong way, the way I didn’t want to.

“Everyone knows that Feyenoord is my ultimate dream team. When I was seven years old, I entered there for the first time. However, nothing is occurring at this time.

“I haven’t had to consider it at this time. I had a fantastic time at Feyenoord, of course. After serving as an assistant for four years, I became a manager for four.

“I experienced many beautiful moments. I treasure that.
