In an effort to get younger and pull away from teams like Athletic Club and Girona, Atletico Madrid plans to restructure their roster this summer. The defence is a top priority following Diego Simeone’s worst defensive season at Atletico.

Atletico is scheduled to adopt a €70.7 million capital share increase at the General Meeting of Shareholders on Monday, according to Diario AS. More shares will be issued, if a vote opposing it doesn’t stall the proceedings. Los Rojiblancos should be able to invest more in the transfer market thanks to this; nevertheless, the money will need to be split over two years, and the maximum amount that can be used is 70%. This will depend on how La Liga evaluates their salary cap position.
