Aston Villa is about to sign a deal for a “really strong” midfield player.

Aston Villa have been very busy on the transfer front in recent days and could be closing in on a number of incomings and outgoings.

For example, it’s been claimed that the Villans and Everton have discussed Lewis Dobbin, although Tim Iroegbunam is anticipated to go.

In addition, Villa and Chelsea have discussed Ian Maatsen, who is reportedly nearing a move to B6, and Jhon Duran, who has been connected to a move to west London.

The agreement that might see Douglas Luiz join Juventus is arguably the largest that Unai Emery’s team has done recently.

Two Juventus players will join the claret-and-blue team as part of the agreement, which will see the Villans get between €25 and $30 million (£21 and £25.5 million).

On that front, Fabrizio Romano has now given an update.

Fabrizio Romano says ‘deal imminent’ between Aston Villa and Enzo Barrenechea

The transfer insider, writing on X, claims that Villa and Enzo Barrenechea are set to agree on contract terms ahead of a deal which is now “imminent”.

The Argentine midfielder will be part of the deal, which will also see Samuel Iling-Junior come to Villa, while Luiz goes the other way.

In addition, Juve will have a 10 percent sell-on clause, added Romano.

Aston Villa getting themselves a solid midfielder in Barrenechea

Weston McKennie and Iling-Junior were initially engaged in the Luiz transfer, but the American international has since left the picture.

Barrenechea, a gifted young player with his entire career ahead of him and a strong showing in Serie A last season, is also a huge shout for Villa.

The 23-year-old, who can play at both No. 6 and No. 8, spent the previous season with Frosinone where he appeared in 36 games in Serie A.

Barrenechea is a “very strong” player, according to former Juventus U19 coach Andrea Bonatti, who made this statement to Tuttomercatoweb earlier this year.

He declared, “He’s not any different from Rodri or Sergio Busquets.” Now that he is much more complete, he can play as a midfielder in addition to being a playmaker.

“He has the ability to perform at that level and can succeed in the Juventus environment, but he will need to validate his abilities and it is difficult to replicate himself.”
