Jesurun Rak-Sakyi had a frustrating 2023/24 at Crystal Palace and he’s now been dealt yet another blow.
Even though Jesurun Rak-Sakyi’s campaign was very frustrating in the end, it got off to a good start as he appeared in six Crystal Palace games in the first nine games.
This continued until his final Premier League game of the season, a 30-minute cameo against Spurs on October 27.
Following this, he missed 24 games due to a hamstring injury and was unable to make an impression on Oliver Glasner’s squad.
Twelve months after he was turned down for a loan move, he’s just had another setback.
Jesurun Rak-Sakyi to suffer Portsmouth disappointment
Rak-Sakyi’s best option after this season is probably to go on loan in an attempt to increase his playing time and go back to where he was a year ago.
Before this summer, it appeared as though he would be receiving that loan to Portsmouth, the EFL’s top-ranked team in League One. It would have been perfect for him, and this was reported back in May.
However, journalist and Portsmouth specialist Andrew Moon has already tweeted an update about Rak-Sakyi’s potential loan move.
“It is now looking very unlikely that Pompey will pursue Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi this summer,” the author said.
After his poor Eagles campaign, the 21-year-old bright potential will be extremely disappointed by this.
But now Portsmouth expert and journalist Andrew Moon has tweeted an update on the prospective loan move for Rak-Sakyi.
He wrote: “A Pompey pursuit for Crystal Palace this summer winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi is now looking very unlikely”.
This will be hugely disappointing for the 21-year-old exciting prospect, following his frustrating campaign with the Eagles.
What needs to happen with Jesurun Rak-Sakyi?
Following his stellar season in 2022–2023 while on loan at Charlton, a lot of people anticipated that Rak-Sakyi would truly take off and establish himself in 2023–2024.
He attracted interest from a number of teams last summer, including Sunderland, Blackburn, and Championship-winning Leicester City, who wanted to sign him on loan.
Despite Roy Hodgson’s request, he was eventually kept at Selhurst Park. However, due to improper use of him by the previous manager and injuries, he only played 232 minutes of senior football during the season.
Now that he’s been turned down for a loan to Pompey, it seems history may be repeating itself.
He needs a loan, and it has to be to the player who was called “exciting” last summer if he is to return.
