Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s transfer to Newcastle United is becoming closer.

Exclusive: There is hope that a deal may be reached, although a fee is still being negotiated.

As they near one of their long-term transfer goals, Dominic Calvert-Lewin of Everton, Newcastle United is moving forward with a deal to sign him.

Newcastle’s interest in the striker was originally made public by Telegraph Sport in the summer of 2021. The publication also revealed last month that Newcastle was once again interested in the 27-year-old this summer.

Although Everton had started negotiations to extend Calvert-Lewin’s current contract, which has just one year left, it appears the midfielder is eager to transfer to Tyneside.

This will probably compel the Merseyside team—who has a history of noncompliance with Profit and Sustainability rules—to sell the forward, and Newcastle will be in a strong position to do so.

Although a cost is still being negotiated, there is optimism that an agreement may be reached. Although negotiations have been moving forward, more work needs to be done before a transfer is confirmed. Newcastle must first sell someone in order to make a purchase.

Importantly, despite his injury issues, Calvert-Lewin played 38 games for Everton last season, and Newcastle feels that with Eddie Howe leading a more attacking squad, he would score considerably more goals than the eight he scored for Everton.

The England international’s name has always been mentioned often in recruitment meetings, and over the past few weeks, Newcastle has been making a lot of effort to sign the player.

With his physical traits, the former Sheffield United prospect is thought to be the perfect complement to first-choice striker Alexander Isak. Given his aerial skill and hold-up play, he could potentially play alongside the Sweden international if necessary.

Even though Howe has stated in the open that he wants to keep Callum Wilson, another England international, it appears that Wilson is headed for the exit because Newcastle is looking for a new center-forward.

After a summer vacation, Wilson is back on Tyneside and is rumored to have begun exercising to make sure he is in top form for the July 11 start of preseason.

Although he is now Newcastle’s second-highest goalscorer in the Premier League behind Alan Shearer, the 32-year-old has been an incredible performer. However, he lost a significant portion of the previous season due to injury once more.

Newcastle is also taking into consideration a number of bids for Yakubu Minteh, an exciting young player who made waves last season while on loan at Feyenoord.
