Keith Wyness: Everton is anticipated to get a new point deduction.

Even though Dan Friedkin is expected to take over, Everton’s previous manager Keith Wyness has stated that the team will receive another point reduction for the 2024–25 season.

The 66-year-old, who ran a football consultancy advising elite clubs after serving as CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009, expressed hope that the Premier League would reevaluate punishment if the Toffees turn things around following Friedkin’s buyout in an interview with Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.

According to several sources, the current Everton owner Farhad Moshiri has given the Friedkin Group an exclusivity deal, and the group is getting closer to taking over the team.

Due to two infractions of the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) during the 2023–24 campaign, Sean Dyche’s team lost eight points and is currently awaiting a hearing.

With their accounts due to expire on June 30, Everton is also under pressure to avoid punishment for violating PSR for the 2023–24 campaign.

Wyness claims that even with Friedkin’s takeover, Everton will still lose points.
Wyness asserted that if Friedkin’s takeover eliminates the Merseysiders’ financial problems, they may turn into a “showcase” for the Premier League.

He stated on the Insider Track podcast of Football Insider: “Friedkin is powerless to change the historical PSR.

However, he can ensure that it no longer exists in the future.

“One item that needs to be cleared up before we proceed with this third hearing is the interest payments for the new stadium. It is possible for us to lose points even after the takeover.

“Hopefully the Premier League, if these charges come around, will see that this is now a club which isn’t in trouble, a club which isn’t punching above their weight.

“It could become a bit of a showcase in terms of how Premier League clubs can get through issues and resolve them.”
