Argentina’s Copa America opener included a pivotal role from Aston Villa keeper Emi Martinez.

In the wee hours of Friday morning, Argentina defeated Canada 2-0 in their Copa America opener thanks to a clean sheet held by Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez.

“Dibu” began the first game in Group A of the competition in the United States and played for the entire ninety minutes.

Shortly after halftime, Julian Alvarez gave Argentina the lead when he threw the ball into an empty net after Alexis Mac Alister had outwitted the goalkeeper to get to it.

With just two minutes left, Lionel Messi passed him through on goal, and Lautaro Martinez rolled home to help seal all three points.
