Newcastle United issue heartfelt message after midfielder is hospitalised with ‘illness’

Nabil Bentaleb, a former midfielder for Newcastle United, is in the hospital.

The Ligue 1 team Lille, where the Algerian is now playing, confirmed the player’s illness in a statement on Wednesday night.

“LOSC informs that Nabil Bentaleb suffered from illness on the evening of Tuesday, June 18,” stated a statement from the club issued by Lille.

The athlete was attended to right away, and he was admitted to Lille University Hospital. LOSC offers Nabil all of its support and stays as close to him as possible throughout this hardship. The Club also demands that players’ private lives be treated with more care.

Newcastle responded to Lille’s statement on social media by saying, “Everyone at #NUFC is with you, Nabil.” We hope you get well soon.

Bentaleb made 15 appearances for Newcastle across all competitions after joining on loan from Schalke in January 2020. Later, he moved to Ligue 1 and joined Angers before moving to Lille in the summer.

Before joining Schalke, the 29-year-old began his professional career in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur, where he made 66 appearances and scored one goal.

Despite not scoring a goal in a competitive game while at Newcastle, Bentaleb did manage to score in the Gallowgate End during a lockdown drill at St. James’ Park with an incredible strike.

After Angers was relegated from Ligue 1, there were rumors last summer that Bentaleb would make a surprise return to Newcastle. According to reports from Algeria, Newcastle would give Bentaleb the opportunity to play in the Premier League once more. However, as The Gazette reported at the time, a deal would not go through, and the player ended up signing with Lille.
