Controversial figure announces he wants to try to buy Sunderland from Kyril Louis-Dreyfus again

William Storey has kept his name mentioned in Sunderland four the last four years now.

The contentious entrepreneur initially surfaced on Wearside in 2020 when Stewart Donald made the decision to sell the team.

Storey gained notoriety as a co-founder of Rich Energy, an energy drink company that formerly supported the Formula One team Haas. But his company folded up in less than a year, and their agreement was broken.

Storey then made an attempt to break into the football league by saying he had “significant funding” to purchase Sunland and that he had filed his proposal in August 2020.

There was much skepticism regarding the veracity of his assertions, and his purported offer never materialized.

After Kyril Louis-Dreyfus arrived at the Stadium of Light, the Daily Mail quickly revealed that the businessman intended to repurchase the team for an astounding £42 million.

Unsurprisingly, he made further unsuccessful attempts before attempting Coventry City and Reading, both of which were never realized.

Since then, Storey has faced harsh criticism; a former Sunderland staffer called him a “fantasist” and detailed how he never came close to purchasing the club.

William Storey wants to bid for Sunderland for a third time

Black Cats supporters now understand to just ignore Storey’s claims on X, but that hasn’t stopped him from winding them up even further.

Following the criticism towards Louis-Dreyfus and Kristjaan Speakman, the 45-year-old has now said he is once again preparing a bid to take over on Wearside.

Alongside a video of Lincoln’s Inn in London, Storey wrote on X: “A beautiful afternoon in Lincoln’s Inn. Meeting my lawyers reference Sunderland bid.”

Will Kyril Louis-Dreyfus sell up?Storey’s claims have been questioned from the beginning because he has already had disastrous results in Formula One.

By criticizing Donald and KLD and promising to deliver exactly what they wanted, the controversial figure attempted to give Sunderland supporters what they wanted.

But it was pretty clear that this was all fantasy, and at this point, all he seems to be looking for on social media is a response.

Although KLD has faced a lot of criticism after a difficult season at Sunderland, it doesn’t seem likely that he will sell up anytime soon, and Storey isn’t the buyer.

Speakman appears to be the primary issue, thus the Black Cats’ first move should be to let him go.

The 27-year-old owner will be under increasing pressure if the problems persist after then.
